Community Advocacy Network

Mission Statement

The National Committee of Grandparents for Children’s Rights
The National Committee of Grandparents for Children's Rights (NCGCR) was established to form a coalition of concerned grandparents, citizens and agencies united to create one powerful voice and to network with groups throughout the nation that share our goals. Our mission is to advocate and lobby for substantial and urgent legislative changes that protect the rights of grandparents to secure their grandchildren's health, happiness and well-being. We are committed to monitoring agencies that affect our grandchildren at the city, county, state and federal levels and to protect the rights of grandparents and the needs of grandchildren who are at risk.

NCGCR has chapters around the country as well as an on-line support group that allows grandparents to communicate with members from their own state and around the nation. NCGCR has held two national rallies in D.C. with its national partners and has recently organized the first International Grandparent Caregiver Summit in Brooklyn, NY. Grandparents attended from other countries to discuss the challenges facing the unique population of kinship caregivers.  The next national grandparent rally is scheduled for May 7th, 2008.  Additionally, members receive one year's free subscription to Grand Magazine, the only national magazine dedicated to grandparents.  NCGCR's spokesperson is Ms. Patti Page, singer and grandparent who is raising her two granddaughters.
