Stimulus Letter to Senate

Tuesday, February 5, 2008

(Alliance for Retired Americans)

Dear Senator:

The Alliance for Retired Americans, on behalf of its more than three million members throughout the nation, urges you to vote for a stimulus plan that includes stimulus payments to 20 million Social Security recipients not currently covered in the House-passed plan of H.R. 5140.

Social Security recipients will spend these stimulus payments. Retired Americans in recent years have faced skyrocketing increases in the price of health care, especially prescription drugs, home heating fuels, gasoline, and basic food necessities such as milk. These higher prices impact older Americans on fixed incomes more than the general population. The inclusion of stimulus payments to low-income Social Security recipients will have a nearly immediate, positive effect in stimulating the economy.

Passage of an economic stimulus plan that includes stimulus payments to low-income Social Security beneficiaries as well as increasing funds for energy assistance and the food stamp program will greatly aid older Americans. If we can be of assistance, please contact Richard Fiesta, Director of Government and Political Affairs, at the Alliance. The Alliance for Retired Americans is committed to enacting legislation that improves the quality of life for retirees and all Americans.

Sincerely yours,

George J. Kourpias, President
Ruben Burks, Secretary-Treasurer
Edward F. Coyle, Executive Director
