SENIOR POWER TO BE SHOWCASED AT CAPITOL HILL - Strengthen Social Security Rally

Alliance for Retired Americans Says Fight is for Children and Grandchildren

Statement of support attributed to George J. Kourpias, president of the Alliance for Retired Americans, for National Day of Unity to Protect Social Security and Stop Privatization - DC rally, April 26, 2005

Washington, DC—"Tuesday's National Day of Unity to Protect Security and Stop Privatization marks a milestone in the fight to protect and preserve Social Security because seniors will join forces with allies of all ages to stop privatization.

Social Security is a vital safety net that helps keep nearly half of all American seniors out of poverty and, because of that, seniors must make our collective voices heard to ensure its benefits are there for generations to come.

I urge older Americans to make the time to make a difference. We cannot stand by and let this president replace the guaranteed benefits of Social Security with risky private accounts.

Seniors have the political muscle to stop those set on privatizing the program and threatening its long-term financial health.  Social Security needs to be strengthened because it provides hope and possibilities to millions of Americans everywhere. Saying 'no' to privatization is saying yes to a promising future for seniors, the disabled, the widowed, the young and the orphaned."

George Kourpias will be one of the featured speakers at Tuesday's rally in Washington, DC. The Alliance is also mobilizing seniors from around the country for both the DC rally and the planned state events.
