Alliance for Retired Americans Endorses Tessa Hafen for Congress

Washington, D.C.— Citing her strong
commitment to America’s seniors, the Alliance
for Retired Americans today endorsed Tessa
Hafen for Congress. At an event held at the
Paso Verde Library in Henderson, NV, Hafen was
lauded for her pledge to overhaul the Medicare
Part D prescription drug plan to make it help
seniors rather than benefit big insurance and
drug companies. Hafen has said she opposes
privatization of Social Security.
Rep. Jon Porter (R-NV), who currently represents Nevada’s Third Congressional District, does not have a record of standing up for seniors. His lifetime score on the Alliance’s Voting Record - 7% out of a possible 100% - reflects both a lost opportunity to overhaul the confusing Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit and a stunning disregard for seniors in general.
“Rather than fix the obvious flaws in the Part D Medicare prescription drug program before chaos ensued,” Alliance Executive Director Edward Coyle said, “Rep. Porter elected to deepen the deficit crisis and play favorites with America’s most wealthy by rewarding them with tax cuts, at the expense of retirees and seniors.”
The Alliance, a nationwide grassroots organization that advocates on behalf of seniors, recently assessed how all Members of Congress voted on legislation that was important to the welfare of seniors, including Medicare, retiree benefits, tax breaks and pensions.
